Negative experience: The response from the Melbourne branch perfectly illustrates my point. You state that you 'cannot find any record' of me. That is exactly the issue: your organization chooses to purge student records after 10 years, as confirmed by your Central branch in Munich . ​You cannot find me because you have deleted me. This proves that any student who works hard to earn a Goethe certificate will eventually become a 'ghost' in your system, with their achievements erased for the sake of a purely commercial policy. I am not a missing record; I am a graduate whose academic existence you have deliberately wiped out. I am attaching a photo of my official certificate with its unique ID. The fact that you 'cannot find me' in your system despite this proof is the ultimate confirmation that you purge graduate records. Here is the evidence of the academic record you claim doesn't exist. Warning:"Disposable" Diplomas – A Purely Profit-Driven Policy ​I strongly advise against investing your time and money into a certification from the Goethe-Institut. After years of trust, a disgraceful policy has been exposed that systematically devalues the very degrees they issue. ​The Institute now refuses to verify the authenticity of certificates after 10 years, initially citing legal hurdles regarding GDPR. However, the true and cynical nature of this decision was revealed in an official response from their Central branch in Munich and of Prague (I have the emals available): they compared an academic certificate to "running a marathon 30 years ago," claiming that knowledge expires and therefore the diploma loses its value! ​Why you should NOT choose them: ​Erasure of your hard work: If you lose your physical certificate, the Institute refuses to provide a transcript or confirm you ever earned it, effectively erasing your entire academic record. ​Profit-over-education logic: They force students to pay for and retake exams every decade, treating graduates as "temporary customers" rather than alumni. ​GDPR as a smokescreen: They are using data protection as a "smokescreen" to cover a purely commercial policy, while other world-class international institutions maintain secure verification records for life. ​Do not entrust your future to an organization that considers its diplomas "disposable." David was extremely helpful and clearly taught our class through all the required fields that us studying VCE german will face. This time, I felt my grammar ability, specifically in grammar, has gotten exceptionally better in comparison to just a couple of months ago. The teaching staff is very understanding and are able to simplify the content extremely effectively. I couldn't recommend it enough.

Fantastic experience: Great course and excellent teaching! Completed two courses with Marie Dingert and Miriam Garrido, both are very patient and teach the subject with great passion and enthusiasm. Would highly recommend the course and both teachers to anyone looking to learn German. Courses are structured, fun and engaging with a great deal of flexibility. Was not sure how much could be learned via an online course but with great teachers as mentioned it makes the task so much easier and manageable.

Fantastic experience: Great experience! I did a short grammar intensive VCE course over a week and it was extremely useful. Extremely reasonably priced and our teacher was absolutely legendary. We used a lot of different learning methods and my small class had a great time!

Negative experience: I have been studying at Goethe Institute for 6 weeks and have been very happy with my teacher, Miriam. However, most of the learning is by self-study with their online system, which is pedagogically disastrous. The self-study component’s workload is extreme, and it contains tons of vocabulary and grammar not covered in class. This means students do not understand what they are doing and are essentially wasting their time and money. I wrote to the director of the Goethe Institute, Ms Sonja Griegoschewski, to provide feedback about this and suggest they lower the pace of the course and have more scaffolding (I am an experienced language teacher myself with over 20 year teaching experience). Unfortunately, Sonja seemed dismissive and was defensive about the course structure, claiming that the workload is manageable. I feel that the centre is treating students as cash cows at the price of $549 per term and fails to deliver a solid language learning experience. I wouldn’t recommend this course to anyone.
