Fantastic experience: I’ve been taking German Language classes with Isabel and Andreas for a few months now, and I absolutely love it! I had a bit of a foundation already so was worried that I wouldn’t fit neatly into a new curriculum style - but I’ve found the classes to be very well structured and comprehensive, suitable for accelerated and less familiar students all in the one room. They’re well paced, well communicated, and honestly such good value for anyone interested in starting from scratch or picking up the language somewhere in the middle of their learning journey.

Fantastic experience: German Beginner 1 classes at Carine SHS is perfect for me. With a nice number of students, the teacher makes studying grammar a lot of fun. Using a variety of media, audio, cards etc., and fun games, (learning to tell the time uses hand made clock with arrows) I love the interaction with fellow students. And there are the wonderful stories our teacher shares about life and customs in Germany. Instructions are clear and the pace manageable. And each class is emailed with a revision sheet.

Fantastic experience: Highly Recommended! I absolutely love my Wednesday night German class with German Language Classes WA! I was initially a bit nervous about joining the Beginners 2 course, as I had done Beginners 1 at a different school, but I felt welcome straight away thanks to the warm and friendly atmosphere. Everyone in the class was incredibly supportive, and I quickly got to know the other students. The teaching style is fantastic – relaxed, interactive, and fun. We learn through a mix of card games, pair and group speaking activities, and plenty of real conversation practice, which has helped me gain confidence using German in a natural way. Mandy, our teacher, is amazing. She's super friendly, patient, and always encouraging. She creates a safe environment to make mistakes and really motivates us to try speaking German, even if we have to throw in the odd English word while we’re learning. Another huge bonus, especially as a full time uni student, is how flexible and student-focused the program is. If you miss a class, they send out the worksheets, textbook pages, and a lesson summary with key vocab and notes via email – so it’s really easy to catch up. Plus, with class locations both north (Carine) and south (Leeming) of the river, it’s convenient no matter where you live in Perth. Best of all, the classes are truly for everyone – no matter your age or background. The ages in class range from people in their 20s to 50s and beyond, all learning together in a really inclusive and supportive environment. Whether you're learning for fun, travel, work, or just want to meet new people, I couldn't recommend these classes more. It’s been a highlight of my week!

Fantastic experience: Learning German with through ‘German Language Classes WA’ has been an absolute blast! As a novice I had previously used Duolingo but found this to be ‘rote’ learning through repetition this did little for my pronunciation or grammar. I was nervous about attending a class and speaking aloud however, our teacher Mandy’s approachable style and genuine enthusiasm for teaching has made this experience so enjoyable. Her native fluency and knack for making German feel accessible (and even fun!) are unmatched. What’s especially fun is the group dynamic. A room of people from all different walks of life, each with varied backgrounds, experiences and reasons for wanting to learn, but united in the common goal to ‘Deutsch Lernen!’ it is also oddly comforting to stumble through German together, with laughs and ‘Aha!’moments along the way. If you’re looking for a language class that is taught by native speakers who also have formal teaching qualifications/ experience that can offer much more than any online app, then this should be a course for you.

It not only offers high quality teaching, but provides a wonderful community for language learners of all levels. One aspect I find particularly impressive is Antje’s ability to cater to learners with different goals, from studying for official exams and work, to wanting to chat with German friends and family, learn more about German culture or just for an interesting after work hobby - there is something for everyone! *** Couldn't ask for a better environment to learn German - great teachers and welcoming classes. I love the way teachers interweave language learning with discussions around German culture. Antje goes above and beyond to make lessons fun and engaging; I look forward to every week. Fantastic experience: April 2023 - still going strong and continuing to enjoy the weekly German classes! I'm now in my 12th year of classes and can highly recommend. Our current teacher is Elisa who comes from Brazil and has quite a multi-cultural and linguistic background - she speaks Portuguese, German and English fluently and I believe some Spanish and Italian. Her perspective adds an extra dimension to our Advanced 3 classes and we have been covering a range of interesting and varied topics this term. Isabel and Mandy rotated teaching for the first month of classes before Elisa took over. For further information and details about the structure of the German Language Classes of WA please see below for the other 2 reviews I've written previously. Updating this review from 5 years ago! I just want to add that I am still enjoying the weekly German classes very much and have now progressed to Advanced 3, which focusses primarily on improving conversational skills. As well as people such as myself, who have progressed through the ranks from Beginners 1, it would be a good class for anyone who might have lived in a German speaking country and who wishes to continue to practice their skills. We have lovely teachers who all bring their own interests and perspectives to class - currently our Advanced 3 classes are being run by Jitka and Isabel who alternate doing a few weeks at a time before swapping. Having rotating teachers in Advanced 3 is a great way to learn as you will never encounter two people who speak in exactly the same way and accent so it really improves your knowledge and understanding. We have so much fun and lively debate whilst continuing to improve our foreign language skills. Please read my review below too, which gives you an idea of some of the other groups and levels that are available. I can highly recommend German Language Classes WA! "I've been going to the German Language Classes WA for nearly 5 years now and really enjoy my weekly German class! I started out at beginner level and have steadily progressed through to Advanced 2. The teachers are very friendly and help to put everyone at their ease. The course is practically based and I've found my conversational skills have greatly improved. Along the way I've met people from all sorts of backgrounds with different reasons for learning German; some wish to learn another language from scratch, some have lived and worked there and want to keep their language skills up, others have a German speaking partner whilst others want to travel overseas. There are plenty of lively discussions about different topics and we also learn about life in German speaking countries, their cultures and cuisine. I can highly recommend German Language Classes to anyone interested in learning German!"

Fantastic experience: With some self guided learning under my belt over the last few years, I wasn't quite sure what course level to come in at when I chose to start my first formal learning journey. When I reached out to the team, Isabel, Steffe and Käthe were incredibly accomodating and helped me find my place in the right course! The structure of learning activities are diverse and interesting and I can really feel the information sinking in quickly and my skills growing. Fantastic experience: This turned out to be the best German class I've been to in Perth and I'm really pleased that I signed up. Our teacher, Isabel, is helpful and clear in her instruction. She has a friendly approach and makes sure all the students are included, so I enjoy going every week. There's a good mix of grammar and conversation, with examples that are relevant to us via the useful textbook. I feel like I'm making good progress. Also helpful is that the class is located south of the river and easy to get to using public transport.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a student here twice. For a few semesters about 10 years ago and now back in 2022/2023. My experience for both times has been positive with teachers really knowing their stuff. I’ve been keen to learn more grammar (to round out my conversational German) and it has done exactly that. My vocab has improved and my general command and understanding has improved. I’d like it if the classes were offered twice weekly to really drive things home.

Fantastic experience: I was a little hesitant about committing to a class in the evenings to learn a second language. However, I've found it easy to arrive every Tuesday at 6pm and the 2 hours flyby. I've retained 90% of what I've learnt so far as Isabel ensures we continuously revise in each class. The classes give off a relaxed vibe and Isabel, who is from Germany, is a great teacher, very knowledgeable, funny, patient and encouraging. The other students are friendly and as we are all beginners, you don't feel embarrassed or self-conscious when speaking aloud. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to learn German.

Fantastic experience: I have done Beginners I & II this year (one semester each) with Steffi. The classes cover aspects of German culture as well as gradually introducing new grammatical concepts. Steffi will take as much time as you need to understand everything taught in class. The only downside is I want many more lessons to learn more!

Fantastic experience: I've been going to adult German classes with Antje at the B1 level for 12 mths now and I'm very pleased with the class. Small group learning and lots of speaking practice. I like the pace of the class. We don't have a new vocabulary and grammar topic each week but spend 2-3 weeks in each and revise throughout the semester. It means that what you learn is more likely to stick in your head and if life gets in the way and you need to skip a class, it's not too difficult to catch up. We get class notes every week too so can review and catchup. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: My teacher is Steffi and I have been learning German for almost a year now. It was quite daunting at first learning another language, but Steffi is a fantastic teacher. She is organised and prepared and teaches in a very methodical way so that the class understands the whys, whens, and hows of the language. I have never felt embarrassed to ask her to explain or go over something I haven’t quite understood (very different from when I was at school). Steffi is passionate about her homeland, Deutschland, and enjoys passing on her passion of the language and culture to us. I like the way Steffi is keen for us to pronounce the German words correctly. She has the patience of a saint! The classes are fun as we also learn playing games, in German of course! I had no idea our cultures are quite so different and love learning this aspect of the course as well. Thank you, Steffi.

Fantastic experience: I'm an expat in Perth who lived in Germany and didn't want to lose the language. I tried other schools, but none of them catered to people who are already fluent. Luckily I found Isabel and have been attending their Advanced III level for two years, now. While some students have learned the language abroad, others started at the school from scratch and are now absolutely fluent in the language. This is a testament to the high teaching quality and standard of the school. When it comes to the advanced levels, they have a unique rotation system where teachers change from class to class. This offers students a dynamic learning environment where you are constantly exposed to different accents. Isabel and crew are an amazing team of great people. They create a fun and friendly environment where everyone is welcomed and encouraged. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: “Kein ding sei wo das wort gebricht” is the last line of the Poem “The Word” by Stefan George, German Poet, 1868 - 1933. Martin Heidegger has quoted this through the development of his philosophy of Language and Being; “Where word breaks off no thing may be.” Opening the website of “German Language Classes WA” and scrolling a bit down, there is an equally powerful quote from Ludwig Wittgenstein, another German speaking (Austrian) philosopher; “The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.” If you are looking for a door to the wonderful world of these great thinkers, think about German, and “German Language Classes WA”. And if you have a choice in the matter of your teacher, choose Antje. Antje is not teaching German because she is German; Antje is teaching German, because she is a teacher.

Fantastic experience: I have been coming to these German classes for almost 2 years now and I have learned a lot. When I first started, I only knew very little, but now I have learned much more since then. My teacher Antje is very nice, patient and understanding. The classes are engaging and fun with activities, quizzes, writing, reading, speaking and grammar exercises. No matter if was Zoom lessons or in person, I have enjoyed all of them.

Fantastic experience: Our instructor Steffi was fantastic, she provided a wholistic view of the german language with many addional resources and games used to provide interactive classes. The class was well organised and well run and even when we had covid restrictions the zoom lessons we did were interactive and very well organised. The lunch at the end of the course was a great opportunity to socialise with fellow students at different levels and felt like we were part of a community. I highly recommend these courses to anyone wanting to learn or improve their German.

She has mixed the course up with loads of conversional german with the other students, fun activities and the dreaded german grammer (She has explained this in a very easy to understand way). Homework we have been given has been relevant to what we have been learning and set out in an easy to follow format. Fantastic experience: I've been learning Deutsch for almost a year now. My teachers, Käthe and Isabel have been excellent at teaching beginners like myself. The classes are filled with interactive activities and games while learning how to read, write and speak with correct grammar. The course syllabus and book introduce new grammar slowly and provide ongoing revision for grammar learnt in previous lessons, which I find really helpful. We also learn about German culture and norms while learning the language. I highly recommend anyone wanting to learn Deutsche to join German Language Classes WA!

Antje, my teacher, does a great job and makes the 2 hours go by very quickly. Fantastic experience: I started learning German nine years ago after a holiday to Europe. I've been a student of German Language Classes WA since then. The classes are always fun and interesting. In the advanced course, we cover a varied range of topics, including history, current affairs, culture and of course, grammar! There is ample opportunity to practise conversation and improve the accent. All the teachers are very friendly and enthusiastic. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to learn a few phrases before their holiday, or for a previous student who wants to dust off the cobwebs.

Fantastic experience: I started learning German for fun a few years ago, and studied under the tutelage of these lovely teachers for three years, progressing from Beginners 1 to Advanced 1. Every lesson was engaging and entertaining, and the course material presented in a way that was easy to understand. The teachers went above and beyond what was expected, often organising social events for students to use their newly learnt language. I remember fondly the morning teas that Isabel invited her students to a couple of times a year. If you want to learn German in Perth, this is really the best way to do it.

Fantastic experience: I studied German at German Language Classes WA for 5 terms over 6 years starting at Beginner level and finishing at Zertifikat B2 Level. These evening classes were interesting and varied and based on sound pedagogy. They comprised a variety of material. A typical class would have a conversational discussion about what class members had done during the week (always fun) and some grammar exercises, sometimes a reading or a game, a homework challenge and a video or print item to stimulate discussion and hear the wide variety of spoken German. The classes are lively and focus on practical and active use of spoken and written German. Many of my classmates were using it for work as well as hobby interests.

Fantastic experience: German Langauge Classes provide an awesome level of German language instruction whether you are a beginner or a fluent speaker looking to brush up on your German. The classes are small, friendly and professionally conducted yo ensure the best learning experience. My German went from nothing to conversational in 12 months! Thanks!
