1 month ago Fantastic experience: I really enjoyed my first 10 weeks here. As a complete beginner, I found María’s teaching method very easy to follow. She focuses on making everyone feel comfortable with the language, and before you know it, by the end of the term you can see how much progress you’ve made. That said, your progress also depends a lot on your own effort. Practising in your own time and completing the homework properly (without relying too much on AI or Google translate) makes a big difference. Overall, a great experience and a very supportive learning environment. I’m keen to start the new term soon.

5 months ago Fantastic experience: After starting my learning in Spain, I was worried trying to learn Spanish in Australia wasn’t going to be effective. But my private Spanish Blackboard lessons with Lucía have proven me wrong. I am genuinely improving because the structure and pace is the perfect balance of challenging but not overwhelming. Lucía is so so encouraging and inspires me to keep learning (even when I’ve made the same grammatical mistake for the 3rd time ). 5 months ago Fantastic experience: Teacher Adriana de baralona Class size perfect, lesions were fun and engaging. Over the course of 8 weeks I have learnt a lot of fundamentals Adriana was a fun teacher and very helpful. Sometimes though it was hard to read her hand writing.

5 months ago Positive experience: It is ok. The pace of learning is heavily conditioned on how motivated and good are other people in your group. Teachers are good though. Also, not clear why 50 mins of the last class are devoted to a test instead of learning. As I personally paid for learning not for testing myself when I am not ready for it.

For A1.2 we schedule a structured assessment during the last 45–50 minutes once the course content has been completed so we can reliably measure progress and identify areas that may need reinforcement. We understand that group pace can affect each student’s experience and will review how we communicate the purpose and timing of the assessment. We continuously monitor group composition and course pacing to help ensure everyone moves forward together, and we appreciate your input.

7 months ago Fantastic experience: Truly having the best time learning with Spanish Blackboard! I had been doing duolingo for around 2 years before I switched to this, and the in-person classes with other students have made a HUGE difference. I did a level test to work out which level to start at, and I was nervous because I hadn't had many conversations in Spanish, but Laura was so lovely and welcoming! The level test is quick and totally worth doing if you have any prior experience. I did my A2.1 classes with Adriana (Barcelona), who is an absolute delight - she's super funny and engaging, and explains concepts in a way that's easy to understand. I've learnt more from her in the past 10 weeks than I did in 2 years of online language apps, and I genuinely cannot recommend it enough. I'll be back next term for more Spanish!

The school is a fantastic resource for Spanish learning - everything is seamless, the content is relevant and the learing concepts are approachable for even the earliest of beginners. 11 months ago Fantastic experience: I’ve now taken two blocks of classes with Spanish Blackboard (A1.1 & A1.2), and thoroughly recommend to anyone interested in learning español. The classes embed a solid structure for learning the theory and logic behind the language, which provides a strong foundation for learning. 1 year ago Fantastic experience: I absolutely loved doing classes with Spanish Blackboard. I started last February from A1.1 in preparation for a 6-month trip through South America. Before the trip I covered the A1.1, A1.2, and B1.1 classes, and felt very well prepared for the trip! I am still continuing learning Spanish now, currently preparing to do a placement in a hospital in Guatemala in January… in Spanish! I loved the community, the small-sized group classes that were big enough to meet lots of new people, but also small enough to get involved, and my teachers Dani and Maritza I had were great too! They also make such a great community by hosting the end-of-term fiestas which were one of my favourite parts. I would 100% recommend Spanish blackboard to anyone looking to start their Spanish journey. I can't thank them enough for helping me start out on mine considering that now it is such a huge part of my life!

1 year ago Fantastic experience: Deciding to do group classes at Spanish Blackboard Academy was such a good decision. I just completed my first 10 week term and the classes helped me develop my listening and speaking skills. They were well structured, started on time and incorporated grammar, writing, listening and speaking. They are run by lovely teachers like Adriana in a patient and fun manner. There is a small amount of weekly homework which really helps reinforce the learnings. I look forward to the next 10 week term.

1 year ago Fantastic experience: I started learning Spanish through the blackboard academy about a year and a half ago. I am super busy with work, and so I do 1 to 2 lessons a week for 90 min each. The company is great, and are very accommodating with busy schedules when using their one on one lessons. My tutor is Valentina, an Argentinian who lived In Sydney for a little while. This is great for me, as I was specifically wanting to learn Argentinian Spanish. Valentina is excellent, as she always finds ways of expressing things so that I can learn easier. She has constantly changed the lesson delivery to target the areas I need the most work in. And lastly, she is super patient as a teacher. I can’t recommend the Spanish Blackboard academy enough.

1 year ago Fantastic experience: Did the online/zoom group courses (price listed under just “Group class“ on the website), so I can only speak to that. They have a large variety of teachers. Some are pretty good, but for the most part, they are all really great, particularly in that they are native speakers, patient, friendly, super encouraging, and easy to work with. A couple teachers didn’t speak English too well, which can cause confusion every once in a while, but there definitely weren’t any teachers I would say were bad, and in fact, most were really good! They provide their own resources/booklets for levels A1.1, A1.2, A2.1, A2.2, A2.3, which are all really nice, clear, and well organised/designed. This gets mixed with Kahoots, games, interactive activities and lots of other fun stuff, that the teacher runs you through. From B1.1 onwards, they use a textbook instead, again mixed in with lots of activities. The two hour classes can feel a little long at times, but your always learning or practicing something, so it’s never boring. (Tip: Just make sure you do a little study and homework here and there, so you don’t feel like you’re forgetting things or falling behind the content) My only minor feedback is that I wish the website listed all the levels out (A1.1, A1.2… B1.3 etc.), so you get a grasp of how long, and how many courses it will take to get quite far with the language using Spanish Blackboard. And it was also unclear that you can do “Online Group“ classes, instead of simply “Group“ or “Private Online“ classes. But once you contact Laura through the website (who is amazing btw), you can quickly get all that info and get started in the right course! All in all, it’s very educational, and decently paced (not too slow, and goes through a lot of real life practical content), very cheap compared to other places ($450 for 10x2h lessons), and a lot funner than a traditional classroom environment. Like all languages, you‘ll need to stick with it for a long time, before you see heaps of progress, but yeah, I would very happily recommend Spanish Blackboard to anyone!

1 year ago Fantastic experience: Learning a second language has always seemed impossible to me BUT starting with the Spanish Blackboard Academy this year has shown me it is not only possible but also lots of fun. The teachers are patient and energetic, the course work gradual and comprehensive and the location is super convenient in the city. 1 year ago Fantastic experience: I literally cannot fault Spanish Blackboard Academy! I have been with them for about 8 months (almost done with three sets of 10-week classes - A1.1, A1.2 and A2.1). Right from the very start (the free trial class and the wonderful interactions with the director Laura), everything has been smooth, friendly and easy. My teacher, Federico, is nothing short of amazing. He is patient, extremely engaging, knowledgeable, interactive, hilarious, fun and professional all at the same time. The class sizes are perfect for a relaxed learning atmosphere, and there are online classes for those that wish to do that (though I have really enjoyed my in-person classes, and meeting others who are learning the language too). It is an immersive class, so the classes are largely taught in Spanish which I think is a great idea - it's incredible how much you learn that way. There is an art to teaching a new language - and these guys have it. I've also attended one of the organised fiestas where there were other teachers, and from what I can see, they are all native Spanish speakers who are exceptionally skilled and are so passionate about what they do. Their energy is infectious and Monday nights are now something I reaally look forward to!! For anyone thinking about it, I HIGHLY recommend SBA!

2 years ago Fantastic experience: Great experience refreshing my Spanish at the Spanish Blackboard Academy! All interactions with Laura and Adriana have been very professional. Adriana is a highly skilled teacher and makes learning fun and interactive, she is very encouraging and supportive of her students as they progress their language skills. I highly recommend this academy for anyone wishing to learn Spanish as they offer a range of classes from Beginner to Advanced level and they are extremely professional in how they operate.

2 years ago Fantastic experience: Just finished b1.1 course here with Adriana, was amazing couldn't recommend more! Despite being a bit pricey (but no more than other language classes in Sydney) I found it a really good place to learn, not just the language but it was really cool to learn things about Colombian culture from Adri, and she's a really funny teacher, every class was good fun :)

2 years ago Fantastic experience: One year ago I decided to embark on the journey of learning Spanish through Online private lessons. In the beginning, I wasn't sure about this option. However, It was the best decision I have ever made. The Online classes with Ana have proven to be immensely beneficial. The Online classes are nothing short of dynamic and engaging. From the moment I entered Zoom, I was greeted with an atmosphere of enthusiasm and dedication to learning. My teacher Ana possesses a remarkable ability to create a sense of connection and camaraderie despite the virtual setting, fostering an environment conducive to open communication and active participation. Also, she utilises a variety of teaching methods and resources keeping the sessions lively and interactive throughout. Whether through role-playing activities, discussions, multimedia presentations, or interactive games every class was designed taking into consideration my needs and interests. The personalized attention and feedback provided by Ana have been invaluable in my language learning journey, allowing me to progress at a pace that is comfortable yet challenging.
